तस्य हैतस्य पुरुषस्य रूपम् । यथा माहारजनं वासो यथा पाण्ड्वाविकं यथेन्द्रगोपो यथाग्न्यर्चिर्यथा पुण्डरीकं यथा सकृद्विद्युत्तम् । सकृद्विद्युत्तेव ह वा अस्य श्रीर्भवति य एवं वेद । अथात आदेशो नेति नेति । न ह्येतस्मादिति नेत्यन्यत्परमस्ति । अथ नामधेयं सत्यस्य सत्यमिति । प्राणा वै सत्यम् । तेषामेष सत्यम् ॥ ६ ॥

English meaning
Its appearance is like a deeply yellow-red dyed cloth, like white wool, like the red indragopa insect, like a flame, like a white lotus, and like a sudden flash of lightning. The splendour of one who knows this is like a sudden flash. Now the instruction concerning it is, “Not this, not this.” There is no further instruction surpassing this “not this.” Its name, then, is “the truth of truth”: the vital faculties are truth, and this is their truth.

छह उपमाएँ पुरुष को किसी एक दृश्य आकृति में बाँधने नहीं देतीं। नेति नेति उन निर्धारित रूपों से आगे ले जाने वाला निषेध है; उसके बाद “सत्य का सत्य” आने से इसे सरल शून्यवाद नहीं बनाया जा सकता। “इससे बढ़कर” वाले वाक्य का निर्देश-सम्बन्धी अर्थ यहाँ चुना गया है; अन्य दार्शनिक व्याख्याएँ भी हैं।
Explanation
The six images resist reducing the person to one visible shape. Neti neti negates limiting descriptions; its immediate continuation with “truth of truth” prevents a simple reading as nihilism. The difficult sentence about what is “beyond this” is rendered here as a statement about the adequacy of the negative instruction; other philosophical interpretations exist.
