स यथा शङ्खस्य ध्मायमानस्य न बाह्याञ्छब्दाञ्छक्नुयाद्ग्रहणाय शङ्खस्य तु ग्रहणेन शङ्खध्मस्य वा शब्दो गृहीतः ॥ ८ ॥

सः यथा ध्मायमानस्य शङ्खस्य बाह्यान् शब्दान् ग्रहणाय न शक्नुयात्; शङ्खस्य तु ग्रहणेन शङ्खध्मस्य वा शब्दः गृहीतः [भवति] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
जैसे बजते हुए शंख से बाहर निकलने वाली ध्वनियों को अलग-अलग नहीं पकड़ा जा सकता, पर शंख को अथवा शंख फूँकने की क्रिया को ग्रहण करने से ध्वनि ग्रहण हो जाती है।
English meaning
As the sounds issuing from a sounding conch cannot be grasped separately outside it, yet by grasping the conch, or the blowing of the conch, its sound is grasped.
व्याख्या
शंख और उसमें फूँकने की क्रिया ध्वनि की पहचान का आधार हैं। दूसरी उपमा पहले की जगह नहीं लेती, बल्कि विविध परिणामों को उनके उद्गम से समझने की बात दोहराती है।
Explanation
The conch and the act of blowing it provide the basis for identifying its sound. This second image reinforces, rather than replaces, the account of knowing effects through their source.
