Passage 10.9
English meaning
As the sounds issuing from a sounding vina cannot be grasped separately outside it, yet by grasping the vina, or the playing of the vina, its sound is grasped.
Explanation
The vina’s varied tones are understood through the instrument or its playing. The point is the relation between self-knowledge and diverse experiences, not a rule of musical technique.
Context
The third sound analogy concerns the vina, before the teaching turns to another image of emergence.
