जिह्वा वै ग्रहः । स रसेनातिग्रहेण गृहीतः । जिह्वया हि रसान् विजानाति ॥ ४ ॥

अन्वय
वै जिह्वा ग्रहः [अस्ति] । सः रसेन अतिग्रहेण गृहीतः [अस्ति] । हि जिह्वया [पुरुषः] रसान् विजानाति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
जिह्वा ग्रह है। रस नामक अतिग्रह उसे पकड़े हुए है, क्योंकि जिह्वा से रस जाने जाते हैं।
English meaning
The tongue is a grasper. It is seized by the over-grasper, taste, for one distinguishes tastes through the tongue.
व्याख्या
स्वाद को जानने वाली जिह्वा स्वाद की ओर खिंचती भी है; पकड़ने वाली इन्द्रिय और उसे बाँधने वाला विषय साथ दिखते हैं।
Explanation
The tongue both discriminates tastes and is drawn by them, illustrating how a perceiving faculty is governed by its object.
