English meaning
Then the officiant takes sips of the mash, saying: “That choice-worthy [radiance] of Savitr. For one who follows the ordered truth, may winds be sweet; may rivers pour sweetness; may plants be sweet for us. Bhuh, svaha. We contemplate the god’s radiance. May night and dawns be sweet; may the earthly expanse be sweet; may father heaven be sweet for us. Bhuvah, svaha. May he impel our understandings. May the tree be sweet for us; may the sun be sweet; may the cows be sweet for us. Svah, svaha.” The officiant then recites the whole Savitri and all the sweetness verses, saying, “May I myself become all this. Bhuh, bhuvah, svah, svaha.” After the final drink, the officiant washes both hands and lies down behind the fire, to its west, with the head toward the east. In the morning the sun is worshipped: “You are the sole lotus of the directions. May I be the sole lotus among human beings.” Returning by the same way, the officiant sits behind the fire and recites the lineage.
Explanation
The source instructs reciting the complete Savitri again; the translation neither removes its three interleaved parts nor invents an additional full quotation. The sole-lotus image expresses desired distinction. This is a historical ritual account, not dietary or health advice.
Context
The taking of the mash interleaves the Savitri’s three parts with three sweetness verses and three world-utterances, followed by an overnight rest and morning sun worship.
