अथामूर्तम् । वायुश्चान्तरिक्षश्च । एतदमृतम् । एतद्यत् । एतत्त्यम् । तस्यैतस्यामूर्तस्यैतस्यामृतस्यैतस्य यत एतस्य त्यस्यैष रसो य एष एतस्मिन्मण्डले पुरुषः । त्यस्य ह्येष रस । इत्यधिदैवतम् ॥ ३ ॥

अब अमूर्त रूप: वायु और अन्तरिक्ष। यह अमृत है, यह गतिशील है, यह परोक्ष “वह” है। इस अमूर्त, इस अमृत, इस गतिशील और इस परोक्ष का सार वह पुरुष है जो उस सूर्य-मण्डल में है; क्योंकि वही इस परोक्ष का सार है। यह देवताओं या बाह्य जगत के सम्बन्ध में विवेचन हुआ।
English meaning
Now the formless: wind and intermediate space. This is deathless, moving and the more remote “that.” The essence of this formless, deathless, moving and remote domain is the person within that solar disc, for he is its essence. This is the account in relation to the deities or the cosmic domain.

यहाँ अमृत का प्रयोग मूर्त पदार्थ के विपरीत अपेक्षाकृत अक्षय पक्ष के लिए है; उसे बिना चर्चा परम मुक्ति की समान संज्ञा न समझें। अधिदैवत अगले अध्यात्म-विवेचन से बाह्य-आन्तरिक सम्बन्ध बनाता है।
Explanation
Deathless here characterizes the relatively imperishable side contrasted with formed matter; it should not be equated without argument with final liberation. Adhidaivata establishes the cosmic side of the cosmic/individual correspondence continued next.
