English meaning
Ksatra, protective or ruling power: breath is ksatra; breath is indeed ksatra. Breath protects this person from injury. The knower reaches a protective power that itself requires no other protector [the provisional sense of pra ksatram atram apnoti]. One who knows in this way gains union with ksatra and residence in its world.
Explanation
The sounds of ksatra and trayate establish the connection with protection. The difficult atram is understood as not dependent on another protector, supported by the ancient commentary. Another branch’s matram is a genuine alternative, not an automatic correction. The ancient claim about breath’s protective power is neither a guarantee against injury nor a substitute for treatment.
Context
Ksatra is the fourth and final name. Breath is now related to protection and the power to preserve against injury.
