English meaning
For the person in this solar disc, bhuh is the head: the head is one and this syllable is one. Bhuvah is the arms: the arms are two and these syllables are two. Svah is the standing support: the supports are two and these syllables are two. The secret name of that person is ahar. One who knows in this way strikes down and leaves behind evil or affliction.
व्याख्या
भूः, भुवः और स्वः को सिर, दो भुजाओं और दो पैरों के आधार से मिलाया गया है। स्वः के दो अक्षर होने का कथन वैदिक उच्चारण-विधि से सम्बन्धित कठिन बिन्दु है; सामान्य आधुनिक वर्तनी देखकर इसे एक अक्षर में नहीं बदला गया। उपनिषद् यहाँ गुप्त नाम या रहस्य है, पुस्तक का शीर्षक नहीं।
Explanation
Bhuh, bhuvah and svah correspond to the head, two arms and the two supports of standing. Counting svah as two syllables is a difficult point involving Vedic pronunciation; it has not been reduced to one on the basis of modern spelling. Upanisad here means a secret name or teaching, not the title of a book.
संदर्भ
यह सूर्यस्थ पुरुष का अक्षरात्मक शरीर-विन्यास है। अगले अनुच्छेद में आँख के पुरुष के लिए वही विन्यास फिर आएगा।
Context
This passage constructs the solar person’s body from sacred utterances. The same arrangement is repeated for the person in the eye in the next passage.
