English meaning
If one mind were seen by another mind, cognition would require further cognition without end, and memories would become confused.
Context
The possibility of making another mind the knower of mind is considered. The sutra identifies the difficulties of an endless regress and confused memory.
Simple explanation
Placing another similar knower behind every knower does not settle the question. The argument helps distinguish purusha from an endless chain of minds.
