अतीतानागतं स्वरूपतोऽस्त्यध्वभेदाद्धर्माणां ।। ४.१२ ।।

अन्वय
धर्माणाम् अध्वभेदात् अतीतानागतम् स्वरूपतः अस्ति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
अतीत और अनागत अपने स्वरूप में विद्यमान हैं; धर्मों में भेद उनकी कालगत अवस्थाओं का है।
English meaning
Past and future exist in their own nature; the difference among properties lies in their temporal courses.
प्रसंग
वासना और संस्कार से चर्चा अब वस्तुओं के धर्म और परिवर्तन तक बढ़ती है। कालभेद को स्वरूप के संबंध में समझाया गया है।
सरल व्याख्या
धर्म यहाँ वस्तु के गुण या अवस्थाएँ हैं, नैतिक कर्तव्य नहीं। वर्तमान में न दिखना और किसी रूप में आधार न होना एक ही बात नहीं माने गए।
