एतत्तुल्यं यदि मन्यसे वरं वृणीष्व वित्तं चिरजीविकां च । महाभूमौ नचिकेतस्त्वमेधि कामानां त्वा कामभाजं करोमि ॥ २४ ॥

यदि एतत्तुल्यम् [वरम्] मन्यसे, वरम् वित्तम् चिरजीविकाम् च वृणीष्व । नचिकेतः, त्वम् महाभूमौ एधि; त्वा कामानाम् कामभाजम् करोमि ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
यदि इसके समान कोई और वर तुम्हें उचित लगे, तो धन और दीर्घजीवन चुनो। हे नचिकेता, विशाल भूमि पर समृद्ध होओ; मैं तुम्हें इच्छित भोगों का भागी बनाता हूँ।
English meaning
“If you consider some comparable boon worthwhile, choose wealth and long life. Prosper over a great domain, Nachiketas; I shall make you a sharer in desired enjoyments.”
व्याख्या
वित्त और चिरजीविका भोग के साधन और उसे भोगने की अवधि, दोनों को समेटते हैं। कामभाजम् इच्छित वस्तुओं में भाग पाने वाला है। फिर भी यह प्रस्ताव मृत्यु के बाद के अस्तित्व के मूल प्रश्न का उत्तर नहीं देता।
Explanation
Wealth and longevity cover both the means of enjoyment and the time available for it. Kamabhaj means one who participates in desired enjoyments. Even this enlarged offer does not answer the original question about existence in relation to death.
