English meaning
Yama taught him that fire, the beginning of the worlds: which bricks were required, how many, and how they were to be arranged. Nachiketas repeated the teaching as given. Pleased, Death spoke to him again.
Explanation
The bricks preserve the teaching’s concrete Vedic ritual setting. This verse does not supply the full numbers or arrangement, so it cannot by itself be expanded into a complete performance manual. Nachiketas’ response demonstrates attentive and accurate learning.
Context
The instruction and the pupil’s accurate grasp of it are summarized.
