एष तेऽग्निर्नचिकेतः स्वर्ग्यो यमवृणीथा द्वितीयेन वरेण । एतमग्निं तवैव प्रवक्ष्यन्ति जनासः तृतीयं वरं नचिकेतो वृणीष्व ॥ १९ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
हे नचिकेता, यह तुम्हारी वह स्वर्ग्य अग्नि है जिसे तुमने दूसरे वर से चुना था। लोग इस अग्नि को तुम्हारे ही नाम से कहेंगे। अब तीसरा वर चुनो।
English meaning
“Nachiketas, this is the heaven-leading fire you chose as the second boon. People will speak of it by your name. Now choose your third boon.”
व्याख्या
तव एव के साथ नाम का अर्थ पिछले वरदान से ग्रहण किया गया है। यह स्पष्ट संक्रमण है: अग्निकर्म की शिक्षा पूरी हो चुकी है, लेकिन संवाद का सबसे कठिन प्रश्न अभी शेष है।
Explanation
The phrase “by your name” draws on the preceding naming of the fire. This is an explicit transition: the instruction in the fire-rite is complete, but the dialogue’s most difficult question is still to come.
