शान्तसंकल्पः सुमना यथा स्याद् वीतमन्युर्गौतमो माऽभि मृत्यो । त्वत्प्रसृष्टं माऽभिवदेत्प्रतीत एतत् त्रयाणां प्रथमं वरं वृणे ॥ १० ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
हे मृत्यु, गौतम मेरे प्रति शान्त विचार वाले, प्रसन्न और क्रोधरहित हों। आपके द्वारा लौटाए जाने पर वे मुझे पहचानकर प्रेम से बोलें। तीन में यह पहला वर मैं चुनता हूँ।
English meaning
“Death, may Gautama’s thoughts toward me be peaceful, may he be kindly disposed and free of anger. Released by you, may I be recognized and warmly addressed by him. This I choose as the first of the three boons.”
व्याख्या
यहाँ गौतम पिता का वंशगत सम्बोधन है। आध्यात्मिक प्रश्न उठाने से पहले कथा घर के तनाव का समाधान रखती है। मा को इन स्थानों पर निषेधसूचक मत समझें; यह माम् के समान मेरे प्रति या मुझे के अर्थ में आया है।
Explanation
Gautama is a family designation for the father. Before pursuing the larger spiritual question, the story seeks resolution of the conflict at home. The short form ma here means “me”; it is not the prohibitive particle meaning “do not.”
