अशरीरँ शरीरेष्वनवस्थेष्ववस्थितम् । महान्तं विभुमात्मानं मत्वा धीरो न शोचति ॥ २२ ॥

अनवस्थेषु शरीरेषु अवस्थितम् अशरीरम् महान्तम् विभुम् आत्मानम् मत्वा धीरः न शोचति ।

अनित्य शरीरों में स्थित उस अशरीरी, स्थिर, महान् और सर्वव्यापक आत्मा को जानकर विवेकी शोक नहीं करता।
English meaning
Knowing the bodiless, abiding, great and all-pervading self within unstable bodies, the discerning person does not grieve.
व्याख्या
अशरीरम् शरीर से घृणा नहीं, शरीरधर्म से आत्मा की भिन्नता बताता है। महान् को आकार की दृष्टि से पढ़ने की सम्भावना विभुम्, सर्वव्यापक, शब्द से और सीमित होती है।
Explanation
Bodiless denotes distinction from bodily conditions, not contempt for the body. Calling the self all-pervading further prevents “great” from being understood merely as physical size.
