English meaning
Those Brahmins who are superior to us should be put at ease by you with a seat and respectful hospitality. Give with trust and regard, not without them. Give generously according to your resources; give with modesty, with a sense of responsibility, and with understanding. If doubt arises about an action or a way of conduct, then consider the guidance that follows.
Explanation
The five terms describe distinct qualities of giving: trust, resources, modesty, responsibility, and understanding. The reference to Brahmins belongs to a particular historical social order and is not an endorsement of inherited superiority today.
Context
The instruction attends to the quality of respect and giving, then introduces the problem of ethical uncertainty. The response to that uncertainty comes in the next passage.
