English meaning
Regard your mother as worthy of divine honour; likewise your father, your teacher, and your guest. Practice those actions that are beyond reproach, not the others. Follow those actions of ours that are good, not the others.
Explanation
Immediately after calling for reverence, the text restricts imitation to conduct that is good. The teacher does not declare every personal action infallible. This qualification matters: respect is not a mandate for blind obedience, acceptance of mistreatment, or abandonment of one’s safety.
Context
The graduation instruction turns to close relationships and the question of whom to imitate. Reverence is accompanied by an explicit condition of discernment.
