अन्नं वै प्रजापतिस्ततो ह वै तद्रेतस्तस्मादिमाः प्रजाः प्रजायन्त इति ॥ १४ ॥

अन्नम् वै प्रजापतिः [अस्ति] । ततः ह वै तत् रेतः [भवति]; तस्मात् इमाः प्रजाः प्रजायन्ते इति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
अन्न ही प्रजापति है। उसी से वह रेतस्, प्रजनन-बीज, बनता है; और उससे ये प्रजाएँ जन्म लेती हैं।
English meaning
Food is Prajapati. From it comes the reproductive seed, and from that these living beings are born.
व्याख्या
सूर्य-चन्द्र से वर्ष, मास, दिन-रात और अन्न तक आया क्रम ब्रह्माण्ड और जीवन-चक्र को एक निरन्तर सम्बन्ध में रखता है। रेतस् यहाँ प्रजनन-बीज, विशेषतः वीर्य, है। अन्न और प्रजनन का यह सम्बन्ध प्राचीन शरीर-विचार का भाग है, आधुनिक पोषण-विज्ञान या गर्भाधान की पूरी व्याख्या नहीं।
Explanation
The sequence from sun and moon through year, month, day and night, and food connects the cosmos with the generation of life. Retas denotes reproductive seed, especially semen. This link between nourishment and generation belongs to an ancient account of the body, not a complete modern theory of nutrition or conception.
