अथ हैनं शैब्यः सत्यकामः पप्रच्छ । स यो ह वै तद्भगवन्मनुष्येषु प्रायणान्तमोङ्कारमभिध्यायीत । कतमं वाव स तेन लोकं जयतीति । तस्मै स होवाच ॥ १ ॥

तब शैब्य सत्यकाम ने उनसे पूछा: भगवन्, मनुष्यों में जो जीवन के अंत तक ओंकार का ध्यान करता रहे, वह इसके द्वारा किस लोक को प्राप्त करता है? उन्होंने उससे कहा।
English meaning
Then Shaibya Satyakama asked him: Venerable sir, if a person meditates on Om until the end of life, what world does that person attain through it? He answered him.
व्याख्या
प्रायणान्तम् साधना को जीवन के अंत तक ले जाने की बात कहता है, केवल अंतिम क्षण में एक ध्वनि बोल देने की नहीं। उत्तर उपासना के अलग आयामों को अलग फलों से जोड़ेगा, इसलिए प्रश्न का एकमात्र सरल लोक-नाम नहीं दिया जाता।
Explanation
Prayananta carries the practice through the end of life; it does not merely describe pronouncing a sound at the last instant. The answer will connect different dimensions of meditation with different results rather than offer a single undifferentiated destination.
