English meaning
The inward person, pictured as thumb-sized, is always established in people’s hearts. One should carefully distinguish it from one’s body, as the inner stalk is drawn from munja grass. Know it as pure and immortal; indeed, know it as pure and immortal.
Explanation
Extracting the delicate stalk illustrates patient discrimination. It does not direct bodily cutting, injury or destruction; the intended separation is recognizing the difference between the body and the knowing self.
Context
The earlier inner-person image returns in the final practice of discernment.
