अस्य विस्रंसमानस्य शरीरस्थस्य देहिनः । देहाद्विमुच्यमानस्य किमत्र परिशिष्यते । एतद्वै तत् ॥ ४ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
जब शरीर में रहने वाला यह देही शरीर से अलग होकर निकलता है, तब यहाँ क्या शेष रहता है? यही वास्तव में वह है।
English meaning
When this embodied indweller is loosened from the body and departs from it, what remains here? This indeed is that.
व्याख्या
प्रश्न जीवित शरीर की क्रियाशीलता को उसके आश्रय से अलग करता है। केवल बची हुई भौतिक देह की सूची नहीं माँगी गई; आगे का मन्त्र प्राणों के भी आधार की ओर जाता है।
Explanation
The question separates the body’s functioning from that on which it depends. It is not merely requesting an inventory of physical remains: the next verse asks what sustains even the vital breaths.
