तदेतदिति मन्यन्तेऽनिर्देश्यं परमं सुखम् । कथं नु तद्विजानीयां किमु भाति विभाति वा ॥ १४ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
वे उस अवर्णनीय परम सुख को “यही वह है” समझते हैं। मैं उसे कैसे जानूँ? क्या वह स्वयं प्रकाशता है, अथवा अन्य के प्रकाश से चमकता है?
English meaning
They regard that indescribable supreme happiness as “this is it.” How might I know it? Does it shine of itself, or shine by another light?
व्याख्या
किमु भाति विभाति वा अत्यन्त संक्षिप्त प्रश्न है; आत्मप्रकाश और परप्रकाश का भेद एक पारम्परिक विस्तार है। प्रश्न का उत्तर अगले मन्त्र की प्रकाश-उपमा देती है।
Explanation
The question is highly compressed; the contrast between self-illumination and borrowed light is a traditional explanatory expansion. The following verse answers through an image of illumination.
