ऊर्ध्वं प्राणमुन्नयत्यपानं प्रत्यगस्यति । मध्ये वामनमासीनं विश्वे देवा उपासते ॥ ३ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
जो प्राण को ऊपर उठाता है और अपान को भीतर नीचे भेजता है, उस मध्य में बैठे वामन, पूजनीय सूक्ष्म पुरुष, की सभी देवशक्तियाँ उपासना करती हैं।
English meaning
All the divine powers attend the small, venerable one seated in the centre, who raises the upward breath and sends the downward breath inward.
व्याख्या
प्राण और अपान जीवनवायु की अलग क्रियाएँ हैं; मन्त्र कोई श्वास-अभ्यास नहीं सिखाता। वामन में लघु और पूजनीय दोनों अर्थ आते हैं, तथा देवाः को यहाँ इन्द्रियशक्तियों के रूप में भी समझा जाता है।
Explanation
Prana and apana name differentiated vital functions rather than a prescribed breathing exercise. Vamana can suggest smallness and venerability; the divine attendants are also traditionally interpreted as sensory powers.
