य इमं मध्वदं वेद आत्मानं जीवमन्तिकात् । ईशानं भूतभव्यस्य न ततो विजुगुप्सते । एतद्वै तत् ॥ ५ ॥

यः इमम् मध्वदम् जीवम् भूतभव्यस्य ईशानम् आत्मानम् अन्तिकात् वेद, [सः] ततः न विजुगुप्सते । एतत् वै तत् [अस्ति] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
जो इस निकटवर्ती जीवात्मा को, अनुभवों के मधु का आस्वाद करने वाले और भूत तथा भविष्य के स्वामी को जानता है, वह फिर भय से अपने को बचाने की चिन्ता नहीं करता। यही वास्तव में वह है।
English meaning
One who knows this living self close at hand, the taster of experience and lord of past and future, no longer seeks anxious self-protection. This indeed is that.
व्याख्या
मध्वद् का मधु कर्मफल और अनुभव के आस्वाद का रूपक है। विजुगुप्सते का अर्थ रक्षा की इच्छा अथवा घृणा से पीछे हटना भी लिया जाता है; यहाँ निर्भयता का पाठ चुना गया है, सामान्य सावधानी छोड़ने की सलाह नहीं।
Explanation
Honey evokes the enjoyment of experience and the fruits of action. Vijugupsate can suggest seeking protection or shrinking away in aversion; this rendering follows fearlessness, not abandonment of ordinary care.
