English meaning
The one associated with the qualities performs actions that bear fruit and also experiences the results of what he has done. Taking many forms, connected with the three qualities and three courses, this master of the vital powers moves according to his own actions.
Explanation
The individual is called lord of the vital powers without thereby becoming the independent ruler of the universe. The three qualities point to sattva, rajas, and tamas. The three courses receive different interpretations, so the translation does not insert a single definitive list.
Context
Attention turns from the supreme presiding reality to the embodied agent who acts and undergoes consequences.
