स्थूलानि सूक्ष्माणि बहूनि चैव रूपाणि देही स्वगुणैर्वृणोति । क्रियागुणैरात्मगुणैश्च तेषां संयोगहेतुरपरोऽपि दृष्टः ॥ १२ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
देही अपने गुणों के अनुसार स्थूल, सूक्ष्म और अनेक प्रकार के रूप ग्रहण करता है। कर्मसम्बन्धी और आत्मसम्बन्धी गुणों के द्वारा होने वाले इन रूपों के संयोग का एक अन्य कारण भी देखा गया है।
English meaning
The embodied self takes many forms, gross and subtle, according to its own qualities. Yet another cause is also discerned behind its association with those forms through the qualities of action and of the individual self.
व्याख्या
वृणोति का ग्रहण करना यहाँ मनचाहा शरीर स्वतंत्र इच्छा से चुन लेने का सरल दावा नहीं है; ग्रहण गुणों से जुड़ा है। अपरः कारण को प्रसंग में परम अधिष्ठाता से जोड़ा जा सकता है, लेकिन इस मन्त्र में उसका नाम नहीं दिया गया।
Explanation
Taking or choosing forms does not here amount to freely selecting any desired body; the taking is conditioned by qualities. The additional cause can be connected contextually with the supreme presiding reality, but the verse itself does not name it.
