नैव स्त्री न पुमानेष न चैवायं नपुंसकः । यद्यच्छरीरमादत्ते तेन तेन स युज्यते ॥ १० ॥

एषः स्त्री न एव [अस्ति], पुमान् न [अस्ति], अयम् नपुंसकः च न एव [अस्ति] । सः यत् यत् शरीरम् आदत्ते, तेन तेन युज्यते ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
यह जीव अपने-आप में न स्त्री है, न पुरुष और न नपुंसक। वह जिस-जिस शरीर को ग्रहण करता है, उसी-उसी के साथ सम्बद्ध हो जाता है।
English meaning
This living self is not in itself female, male, or neuter. Whatever body it assumes, it becomes associated with that particular body.
व्याख्या
यह मन्त्र देह के भेदों को नकारता नहीं, बल्कि उन्हें जीव का नित्य स्वरूप नहीं मानता। तीन लिंग-वर्ग उस समय की भाषा में देहसम्बन्धी पहचान को व्यक्त करते हैं; इन्हें आधुनिक व्यक्तियों की पहचान का निषेध या मूल्यांकन बनाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है।
Explanation
The verse does not deny bodily distinctions; it declines to make them the living self’s permanent essence. Its three gender categories belong to the text’s own vocabulary of embodiment and need not be turned into a denial or ranking of contemporary personal identities.
