देवानामसि वह्नितमः पितॄणां प्रथमा स्वधा । ऋषीणां चरितं सत्यमथर्वाङ्गिरसामसि ॥ ८ ॥

देवों के लिए तुम सबसे समर्थ हवि-वाहक हो; पितरों के लिए प्रथम स्वधा-अर्पण हो। अथर्वाङ्गिरस ऋषियों का सत्य और फलदायी आचरण भी तुम ही हो।
English meaning
For the gods you are the foremost bearer of offerings; for the ancestors you are the first svadha offering. You are also the true, effective activity of the Atharvan-Angiras sages.
व्याख्या
वह्नितम का बल हवि पहुँचाने पर है, केवल सबसे अधिक गर्म अग्नि होने पर नहीं। स्वधा पितरों के निमित्त अर्पण का पारम्परिक नाम है। अथर्वाङ्गिरस एक ऋषि-परम्परा का संकेत रखते हुए भाष्य में इन्द्रिय-प्राणों से भी जोड़े जाते हैं; इस आन्तरिक व्याख्या में शरीर की क्रियाएँ भी धार्मिक अर्थ ग्रहण करती हैं।
Explanation
Vahnitama emphasizes carrying an offering to its recipient, not merely being the hottest fire. Svadha names the traditional ancestral offering.
