यस्याग्निहोत्रमदर्शमपौर्णमासमचातुर्मास्यमनाग्रयणमतिथिवर्जितं च । अहुतमवैश्वदेवमविधिना हुतमासप्तमांस्तस्य लोकान् हिनस्ति ॥ १.२.३ ॥

जिसका अग्निहोत्र दर्श, पौर्णमास, चातुर्मास्य और आग्रयण से रहित हो, जिसमें अतिथि-सत्कार न हो, आहुति छूट जाए, वैश्वदेव न किया जाए या विधि के विपरीत आहुति दी जाए, वह उसके सातवें तक के लोकों को नष्ट करता है।
English meaning
An agnihotra lacking the new-moon and full-moon rites, the seasonal observances and first-fruits offering, neglecting guests, leaving offerings unmade, omitting the offering to all gods, or performed contrary to rule, destroys its performer’s worlds up to the seventh.
व्याख्या
अभाव बताने वाले अनेक पद कर्म की जटिल निर्भरता दिखाते हैं; अतिथि-सत्कार भी इस व्यवस्था का अंग है। सात लोकों की हानि को भाष्य कभी अपेक्षित फल न मिलने और कभी परिवार की सात सम्बद्ध पीढ़ियों से जोड़ते हैं; यहाँ मूल के लोक पद को रखा गया है।
Explanation
The repeated negative compounds expose the many conditions supporting ritual, with hospitality included among them. Commentaries understand the seven worlds either as forfeited destinations or in relation to seven connected generations; the translation retains the text’s word worlds.
