Passage 6.8
English meaning
As flowing rivers leave behind name and form and disappear into the ocean, so the knower, freed from name and form, reaches the luminous Person beyond what is beyond.
Explanation
On reaching the ocean, the river loses its separate identity; the image stresses the relinquishment of a distinct name and form, not the absence of water. It should therefore not be reduced to a claim of self-annihilation; Vedantic traditions explain the relation between release from separate identity and attainment of the Person differently.
Context
The rivers-and-ocean image makes the preceding return to origins more readily imaginable.
