English meaning
The one who knows all and knows everything in detail, whose greatness is displayed in the world, is this Self established in the space of the luminous city of Brahman. Associated with mind, it guides vital breath and body, dwelling in the food-formed body with the heart as its seat. Through understanding, the discerning behold what shines there, bliss in its nature and deathless.
Explanation
The spatial images of Brahman’s city and the heart indicate a locus of recognition rather than confining the encompassing Self to one small bodily part. Rendering manomaya as mind-associated acknowledges recognition through the mind, while avoiding the unqualified claim that the Self previously called mindless is simply a product of thoughts.
Context
After directing contemplation to the meeting of the channels, this extended mantra connects the inward Self with all-encompassing knowledge, embodied life, and bliss.
