English meaning
From him arise seven vital faculties, seven flames, their fuels, and seven offerings. From him also arise these seven domains in which the faculties move, resting in the cave and established seven by seven in each being.
Explanation
In an established commentarial reading, the seven openings in the head, their powers of apprehension, their objects, and their acts of perception correspond to faculties, flames, fuel, and offerings. Experience thereby takes on the pattern of an offering, but identifying the seven domains with a modern list of chakras would decide the text’s meaning without sufficient warrant.
Context
The mantra joins the language of sacrificial fire to seven vital faculties and their fields, turning from outward ritual toward living experience.
