सर्वं ह्येतद् ब्रह्मायमात्मा ब्रह्म सोऽयमात्मा चतुष्पात् ॥ २ ॥

अन्वय
एतत् सर्वम् हि ब्रह्म [अस्ति] । अयम् आत्मा ब्रह्म [अस्ति] । सः अयम् आत्मा चतुष्पात् [अस्ति] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
यह सब ब्रह्म है। यह आत्मा ब्रह्म है। इस आत्मा के चार पाद हैं।
English meaning
All this is Brahman. This Self is Brahman. This Self has four quarters.
व्याख्या
चार पादों का विवेचन आगे जाग्रत, स्वप्न, सुषुप्ति और चौथे के रूप में होगा। आत्मा के चार टुकड़े होने का अर्थ न लें; यह समझाने का एक क्रम है।
Explanation
The four quarters will be explained through waking, dreaming, deep sleep and the fourth. They should not be understood as four physical pieces of the Self.
