न तत्र चक्षुर्गच्छति न वाग्गच्छति नो मनः । न विद्मो न विजानीमो यथैतदनुशिष्यात् ॥ ३ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
वहाँ आँख नहीं पहुँचती, वाणी नहीं पहुँचती और मन भी नहीं। हम नहीं जानते, नहीं समझते कि इसे किस प्रकार सिखाया जाए।
English meaning
The eye does not reach it, nor does speech, nor even the mind. We do not know or discern how one could teach it in the ordinary way.
व्याख्या
यह सीखने की निरर्थकता की घोषणा नहीं, शिक्षण की सीमा का स्वीकार है। जिस विषय को आँख, वाणी और मन पकड़ते हैं, उसी ढंग से उनके आधार को नहीं पकड़ा जा सकता। अगला वाक्य पूर्वाचार्यों से मिले संकेत को सामने लाता है।
Explanation
This is not a declaration that learning is pointless. It recognizes a limit in describing the ground of cognition as though it were one more thing cognized. The next passage therefore appeals to an inherited indication rather than a direct sensory description.

Context
After indicating the ground of the faculties, the teaching rules out treating it as an ordinary object of those faculties.
