उपनिषदं भो ब्रूहीत्युक्ता त उपनिषद्ब्राह्मीं वाव त उपनिषदमब्रूमेति ॥ ७ ॥

भोः, उपनिषदम् ब्रूहि इति [शिष्यः उवाच] । ते उपनिषत् उक्ता; ते ब्राह्मीम् उपनिषदम् वाव अब्रूम इति [आचार्यः उवाच] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
शिष्य ने कहा, भगवन्, मुझे उपनिषद् की शिक्षा दीजिए। उत्तर मिला, तुम्हें उपनिषद् की शिक्षा दी जा चुकी है; हमने तुम्हें निश्चय ही ब्रह्म-विषयक उपनिषद् बताई है।
English meaning
The pupil said, “Sir, teach me the Upanishad.” The reply was, “The Upanishad has been taught to you. We have indeed taught you the teaching concerning Brahman.”
व्याख्या
उपनिषद् यहाँ केवल किसी पुस्तक का नाम नहीं, दी गई गूढ़ शिक्षा भी है। शिक्षक किसी नई रहस्य-सूची को जोड़ने के बजाय कहता है कि ब्रह्म-विषयक शिक्षा कही जा चुकी है। अगले वाक्य में उसके जीवनगत आधार बताए जाते हैं।
Explanation
Upanishad here denotes the teaching conveyed, not merely the title of a book. Rather than introducing another list of hidden facts, the teacher says that the instruction concerning Brahman has already been given. The next passage supplies the disciplines that support it.
